Promoting Etiquette and Sisterhood through the Expression of Art

About Us
Welcome to SISTAR SOCIETY ACADEMY OF EXCELLENCE!
We’re not just another dance squad, we’re a SISTERHOOD!
At SISTAR SOCIETY, we aim to equip young ladies with basic life skills and etiquette necessary to become high functioning women. While also providing a safe, faith-based environment for them to express themselves through the art of dance.
What began as a simple performance for a birthday party, quickly snowballed into something more. Given their daughters’ love of dance, and their own passion for young people, they realized their purpose was greater than just performing. In a world so divided and eager to oversexualize our youth, Charisse and Dalene found it necessary to create an environment that promoted self-love, self-respect, and unity. God never intended for us to walk this earth alone, but rather share in community, and yet, so many young ladies struggle with loneliness. SISTAR SOCIETY is a safe haven, based on sisterhood and the values of a modern-day Proverbs 31 woman!

Charisse grew up in Maywood, IL. Before moving to Appleton, WI in 2014 with her husband and three children, she worked as a Case Manager for a non-profit organization assisting at-risk youth. It was then her passion for the development of young people was birthed. Charisse noticed a developmental need that was unmet in the school systems and knew she would one day open a non-profit organization to address those needs.

Dalene Johnson
Dalene grew up in Matteson, IL prior to moving to Appleton WI in 2013. She has worked in Corporate America for 10+ years and transitioned into Recruitment where her passion for helping others grew. Recognizing the need for more African-American representation and because of her daughter’s love for dance and helping others, she felt compelled to bring the two together and provide that dynamic to the community.

Core Values

SISTAR SOCIETY is committed to providing a faith-based approach to our dancer’s provision.
As STAR’s grow and mature we expect them to progressively take on our STAR CORE VALUES and live them on a
daily basis. Since all participants are young, it is the role of parents/guardians to take on the STAR CORE
VALUES on behalf of the participant and to work with the coaches to help their STARs develop those values
as they mature.

Community Outreach
At SiStar Society, we believe in being a presence in our surrounding communities. Volunteering keeps us in regular contact with others and helps us develop a solid support system; which in turn protects us from stress and depression during challenging times. Not only does it give us the opportunity to make new friends, but also enables us to make an impact in the lives of others.
Basic Life Skills Prep
Too often, we've heard, "I wish they would have taught us 'this' in school," when speaking on basic life skills such as money management, household management, etc. How do those lacking a solid support system obtain these skills if they aren't taught in our schools either? Practicing life skills can improve a child's self-esteem, confidence, and social competence. Learning life skills helps children make the most out of life, helping them to take action and increase responsibility over their own lives.
Etiquette Training
We believe in the message of the Proverbs 31 woman. Our young ladies should look to the future with plans, goals, and FAITH! As the image of an independent woman is force-fed more and more, things such as dignity, grace, and elegance have become a thing of the past. "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." - Proverbs 31:30
Physical Fitness & Self-Expression through Dance
Being physically active can improve brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones & muscles, and improve our ability to tackle everyday activities. Self-expression helps us reflect on our lives, our actions, our decisions, relationships, beliefs, & thoughts, rather than keeping them buried. By expressing ourselves thoughtfully, we are better able to communicate, collaborate, and build community. We desire for our young ladies to be their confident FABULOUS selves as early as possible so that they can grow into high functioning women!
